ATENEA
Architecture, Middleware and Tools
- Funded by Spain Ministry of Industry
- Duration: 01/09/2007 to 31/12/2008
The main objective of the project is to develop a common vision of the challenges and technologies in the three traversal domains identified in the strategic research agenda of the spanish technology platform PROMETEO: Architectures, Middleware and Design Methods and Tools.
Our work in the ATENEA project started with an extensive analysis of the current situation of SCADA system with respect to security. To this end, we analyzed different components of SCADA systems such as: Remote Terminal Units, Human Machine Interfaces, SCADA control software, storage of alerts and management data, and communication protocols. As a result of this study, we elaborated a good practices guidelines containing security mechanisms to be applied in a SCADA environment. In addition to this, we proposed a security architecture for SCADA systems based on a new identity scheme that solves most of the issues found.
