SECRET, funded by the Plan Avanza, the Spanish Ministry of Industry and the European Union focuses on the protection, security and safety for critical control systems. This is due to the evolution of their architecture and the need to break away from traditional systems, mainly based on isolated networks and proprietary (hardware and software) components. However, and unfortunately, this evolution involves certain architectural complexities and security risks for the good-performance of both the system as a whole and its elements. Therefore, security countermeasures (mechanisms, policies, standards and services) are required, in addition to researching and advancing in all of those technologies that enable the current system to improve its security.
Summarizing, the goal of this project is to research advanced technologies for critical control systems and countermeasures for power networks in order to ensure the security of the system's elements. This also implies having to take into account recommendations, standards and good practices. For this reason, the project comes under the topic of "security", and specifically within the topic of "systems and tools relative to the security of people and physical environments". |
